Tech giant Apple today released the final version of iOS 16.5 and WatchOS 9.5 with new features.
iOS 16.5 and WatchOS 9.5 updates, which were released to the public a few hours ago, can now be installed on Apple devices. With the WWDC 2023 event approaching and the introduction of iOS 17, Apple’s work is far from over with iOS 16.
With the release of iOS 16.5 and iPadOS 16.5, Apple is making relatively few changes to its operating systems, with new features likely to be saved for later major releases.
The release of iOS 16.5 and iPadOS 16.5 comes after a short beta testing period, which included three rounds of testing.
New features that we will see in these updates
Beta versions show that new features include a dedicated Sports tab in Apple News, additional screen recording instructions for the Siri assistant, and a four-screen picture-in-picture mode for the Apple TV app.
The iOS 16.5 and iPadOS 16.5 update includes new lock screen wallpapers that celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. New wallpapers offer a unique look and feel with stunning animations.
Additionally, there’s a new Sports tab in the Apple News app that allows users to easily access team lineups, scores, stories and more.
Apart from these new features, this update fixes Spotlight not responding, CarPlay not displaying content and resetting or not syncing screen settings across devices.
Overall, the updates provide stability to the platform and provide a smooth user experience.
Apple released watchOS 9.5 for download
Apple has also released its update for Apple Watch and now watchOS 9.5 is available for download for all users.
The release of watchOS 9.5 came after a relatively short beta testing process. The beta versions did not reflect any changes to previous features. This suggests that the latest update is about bug fixes and better performance.
It’s also possible that with the introduction of watchOS 10 at the WWDC event, Apple has held back its features in favor of a bigger reveal. The build number of the watchOS 9.5 update is 20T562.
How to update devices to iOS 16.5 and WatchOS 9.5 update
Depending on the user’s settings, devices will automatically update within a day or two. Those who want to install the update early can do so manually.
For iOS and iPadOS, users can go to the Settings app, select General and then Software Update.
To manually update to the WatchOS 9.5 update, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap My Watch, select General, then Software Update, and finally tap Download & Install. Your Apple Watch will then update while charging and within range of the connected iPhone.
