Fairbuds XL modular and repairable headphones have been unveiled

Fairphone entered the headphone market in 2021 with TWS buds and now it has unveiled its first on-ear headphones called Fairbuds XL. This headphone is not only made with recycled materials but also has a very high repairability.

Design and specifications of Fairbuds XL

The design of this headphone is modular and has 11 different parts, so the process of opening and repairing it is very easy. For example, changing the ear cushions is very easy and does not even require special tools. You can also replace the battery after its capacity starts to decrease. The battery of this headphone will maintain about 80% of its capacity after 500 charging cycles. In the picture below, you can see the different components of the headphones.

It should be noted that one of Fairphone’s goals is to avoid the production of electronic waste, and for this reason, the company has tried to use recycled materials in the construction of Fairbuds XL. This headphone contains 100% recycled aluminum, 80% recycled plastic and 100% recycled fibers, and even the electronic parts inside have used recycled tin solder paste.

Fairphone company has even protected its workers in its new headphone production line and tried to provide them with suitable working conditions and make sure that their salaries are sufficient for life.

Fairbuds XL headphones are equipped with 40 mm dynamic drivers and use Bluetooth 5.1 with aptX HD (plus AAC and SBC) along with multi-point connection. The headphones can also be used in wired mode via the USB-C port, but it lacks a 3.5mm audio jack (the latest Fairphone also lacked this jack).

The new Fairphone headphones are powered by an 800 mAh battery that will last up to 26 hours with active noise canceling on a single charge and up to 30 hours with this function off. You can also make changes to the settings of these headphones using the Fairbuds app, which is available for Android and iOS.

Fairbuds XL headphones support the IP54 standard for protection against water and dust and weigh 330 grams. The headphones also feature a foldable design for easier portability.

Price and release time of Fairbuds XL

The headphones are available now in Europe via the Fairphone Store for €250 (£220). Unfortunately, there is no adapter or charging cable inside the box. Meanwhile, the various parts of these headphones are not available at the moment and their prices have not been announced yet.
